The Case of the Half-Drained Vics
Prompt Used: code, disguise, gadget, reward, secret, undercover
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sherlock BBC, Grimm
Word Count: 327
Note: Part of an ongoing crossover series in which Giles brings the Slayerettes to London after the fall of Sunnydale, and they get involved with the Sherlock crew. They're drawn into an investigation of a series of supposed serial killings which might be vampires, or might be something else entirely. Mycroft has come to the Watchers’ Council, as has his distant cousin, Sean Renard, lately of the Portland Police Department. Both sets of teams are zeroing in on the culprits of the multiple murders.

With Sherlock sniffing the door jamb, Buffy managed to pry open the rusted hatch of the battered door set into the stone wall at the back of the Tennis Club where the last, half-drained victim had been found, using a metal gadget she’d had, oddly but conveniently, in her purse. Sherlock’s eyes lit up and the two slowly wrenched open the door, as Lestrade and the others hurried over.

Willow, who’d been reading about the legend of the dearg-du, continued her litany as to how the myth entailed that the beautiful woman, killed by her lover, somehow had spawned a secret brood of blood sucking creatures, doomed to roam the night, sometimes in disguise, waylaying victims. But once the two had the door wide open, and the cold and clammy blast of air seeped out, even she was staring, like the rest, into the dark entrance.

“Well,” said Giles, clearing his throat and reaching into his jacket pocket, “Shall we?” With that, he brandished a small penlight, and advanced into the entry. Sherlock likewise produced a flashlight, as did Dawn from her pink backpack and Lestrade from his overcoat pocket. John looked askance, Willow alarmed, and Xander looked eager but rueful. “Don’t got a light,” he muttered, and John chuckled and drew him and Willow back. “What say we wait here, and let the rest go undercover,” he said mildly, then reaching to grab Dawn as she headed forth. “You too, love, not this time,” as she pouted but drew back obligingly.

“Yes, yes, best wait here,” agreed Giles, as he ducked to follow the others. "And don't forget the code," --waving his phone-- "In case we need to send for help."

"Fat lot of good that'll do anyone," grumbled Xander as he plopped down on the stone wall and fumbled in his backpack. "Crazy librarian forgets we've got no codes for Jolly Old England." With that, he pulled out a Heath bar and began munching contentedly. "But as we know, craziness has its own reward."

We are to post something creative every day for 20 days, so I'm going to continue to work on this fic crossover / silly thing that I do from time to time.

Background: Giles brings the Slayerettes to London after the fall of Sunnydale, and they get involved with the Sherlock crew. They're drawn into an investigation of a series of supposed serial killings which might be vampires, or might be something else entirely. Mycroft has come to the Watchers’ Council, as has his distant cousin, Sean Renard, lately of the Portland Police Department, currently in England following a lead—among other things.

Mycroft Holmes and Sean Renard, unlikely cousins only partially aligned in the debate/discussion at the Watchers' Council, re-took their seats with the others to resume the sparring. Currently at issue was whether the Council should act at all in the matter of the mysterious bodies being found, half-drained of blood, in multiple places across Greater London. Conservative to the last, and in any case more or less in hiding, the Council was a decided "no" on the issue. "If there is no evidence of vampirism, it simply is not our concern," expostulated Senior Hargreaves. "Bloodless corpses can scarcely be said to be 'no evidence,'" rejoined Mycroft, his typically deceptive mildness tinged with irritation.

Renard cleared his throat and gestured to his second, Sergeant Wu, whom he had brought along from Portland. Wu proferred a large binder, which Renard laid on the table and slowly opened. "The Family might have an alternate explanation," he said smoothly, as he turned a page. "But I warn you, it might be disturbing."

For a challenge at [livejournal.com profile] land_deduction to do a crossover with either Elementary or Sherlock BBC. This is part of an ongoing crossover of mine that started being Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Sherlock BBC, but has since incorporated Grimm since I see a strong resemblance between the actors who play Mycroft Holmes and Sean Renard.

Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sherlock BBC, Grimm
Characters: Mycroft Holmes, Sean Renard
Rating: G, some mention of violence
Notes: Part of this crossover ‘verse I write in where Giles brings the Slayerettes to London after the fall of Sunnydale, and they get involved with the Sherlock crew. For a challenge at [livejournal.com profile] gameofcards to do some fanworks illustrating a crossover. So I'm revisiting this headcanon I have that Mycroft Holmes and Sean Renard are cousins, based on the (to me) likeness between the actors Mark Gatiss and Sasha Roiz. A little snippet of the story, a fanmix, and picspam.

At the Crime Scene
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sherlock BBC
Words: 680
Rating: G, Gen

Background: Rupert Giles and the Scoobies have escaped the destruction of Sunnydale, and, after an arduous journey to England, have left the Potentials at the Watchers’ Council headquarters outside London and set themselves down in The City. Giles connects with his childhood friend Detective Inspector Lestrade, where he is swept into an investigation of a peculiar set of serial killings that has left victims, half-drained of their blood, scattered around town. Meanwhile, Buffy and the crew have followed newspaper headlines to the exact crime scene where Giles, Lestrade, Sherlock, and John have just arrived.

Rating: G, Gen

Background: Mycroft Holmes paused with his gloved finger hovering over the keypad at the gated entry. He closed his eyes momentarily, unfamiliar doubt flooding his mind. He willed himself not to glance back toward the black car at the curb. He hadn't chosen to engage Anthea in his trust; he had no right to request her support now.

It had been many years since he had pressed those numbers (of course, he had never pressed these numbers; the code was changed weekly), many years since he had crossed this threshold. However this current flurry of serial killings, the involvement of his brother, and the surprising appearance of the man Giles made this visit inevitable. In any case, hesitation and doubt were irrational, unproductive. He pressed the requisite numbers with aplomb, and pushed the open the gate to the headquarters of the Watchers' Council.

For a challenge at [livejournal.com profile] tv_universe to come up with New Year's Resolutions for fandom characters, including speculation about whether they can keep the resolution! I was inspired by this fun piece and decided to set this in the silly Buffy/Sherlock BBC 'verse that I use from time to time.

Title: Resolutions
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Sherlock BBC
Rating: G, with a bit of innuendo

"Hey, guys, here’s a good one,” called out Dawn, looking up from her mobile phone. “ ‘New Year’s Resolutions You Can Actually Achieve!’ Let’s all pick one!” She looked brightly around the long table, set in hotel brunch style. Her excitement was met with bleary stares, in some cases bordering on outright hostility. Only John and Lestrade tried to — unwisely — nod supportively, and only Mycroft and Sherlock seemed to not be in the throes of major hangovers."Dawn, please," said Giles weakly... )

Buffy/Sherlock Crossover (related to this fic here)
Rated G

Xander wandered moodily into the front room of the London suite they were still occupying, who knew for how much longer. Yeah, it was better than dying in an Apocalypse. And this whole "work with New Scotland Yard and famous detectives on half-drained corpses" was kind of entertaining. But still. He was lonely. He was homesick. (Even if that home was just a smoking hole in the ground.) He was lonely. (Yeah, lonely twice.)

So this is for a 20 in 20 fic challenge at [livejournal.com profile] universe_the using various prompts. It's a few more installments to my sometime-series that features post-Sunnydale Scoobies in London with Giles, getting mixed up with the Sherlock BBC gang. The original is a bit of a case-fic, but I don't think these drabbles will advance that story much. Someday I might put it all together. With thanks to my pal [livejournal.com profile] blue_sunflowers for the beta help and support that manages to be both distracting and encouraging.

01. Wish fulfillment
Xander sighed moodily and stared at the vaulted ceiling of the hotel room, He stretched out his legs on the couch and kicked his feet idly.

"Aw, what is it, Xan Man," Buffy breezed by the couch and twinkled down at him. "Pouting?" She grabbed the back of the couch and did a few leg kicks, then dropped to the ground for push-ups.

"Yeah, hmmm." Xander kicked his feet again. "Y'know," he said, earnestly, sitting up and peering over the back of the couch down at her. "When I was a kid, and hating being at home, I'd sometimes dream of being an international spy, living in swank hotels, with room service on tap. So, you'd think I'd be so happy. But instead..."

Buffy, Willow, Xander, and Dawn stepped out of the elevator into the lobby of the Lancaster and milled around for a minute, insecure. But now they each realized they weren't exactly sure what they were going to do next.Out of habit... )

Room Service
Fandom: Buffy
Words: 328
Note: This can be inserted into this silly Sherlock BBC/Buffy crossover I occasionally work on for various challenges…

Yawning, Willow wandered into the sitting room to find Xander pouncing on a cloth-covered cart. "You ordered breakfast already?"

"Yup," he grinned. "If there's one thing good about this whole situation, it's unlimited English room service!" He lifted a domed lid and speared a sausage. "Especially now that I've figured out what they mean by 'bangers.' And 'bubble and squeak.'" He grabbed a plate and began to fill it. "But the piece-de-resistance" -- flourishing another silver lid -- "a taste of home, I ordered biscuits!" He lifted the last lid and paused, staring at the neat pile of what looked like chocolate cookies.

"Cookies! This isn't what I--oh." His face fell. "I guess that's just one more thing that's not like home." He slumped down on the couch and stared at the cart.

Willow leaned over the back of the couch and looked sympathetic. Try as they might to make the best of their situation--and being in London was pretty fantastic--being homesick was a part of it, for sure.

Xander seemed to be taking it harder than any of them, weirdly since his home life had been anything but happy. But still, to see all your childhood and teen-year memories, fraught as they were with drunken rants, sleeping bags in the backyard, getting your comic books rained on, and having to fight vampires every night--to see it all get swallowed up by the earth...well. It had been home, and now it was gone, and they were here in London, looking at a bunch of crimes that might just get everything started up again.

As if in response to her thought, Xander fell back on the couch and gazed at the ceiling, moodily nibbling on a chocolate digestive.

Willow leaned way over and wrinkled her nose in front of Xander's face. "Never mind, X-man," she said fondly. "'Eat Dessert First.' You can make it your life philosophy." And ignoring his grimace, she pitched herself face first on top of him and started to tickle.
