Title: Whipsawed by Confusion

Fandom: Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
When she'd rehearsed it in her mind, it had a shining clarity. She, standing proud and strong, calm, reasonable, glorious in her surety. Reaching out, kindly, offering the hickory wood of peace, of reconciliation. And he, addled, gaping, in a haze of agnostic doubt, caught off-kilter, gabbling.
So why was it she who wound up babbling, her voice sliding upward into a dolphin squeak? And he the rock, the island, with his damned weejun groundedness, his exaggerated patience? Why was it he, and he alone, that had this effect on her?
Really, it was like some kind of cosmic joke.
