Cupcakes tonight

One of the first things I thought of, when I first thought of this trip, was how to have music in the apartment. Figured I'd buy a set of cheap speakers at a store on the corner somewhere so I could play my 800 songs that are in this laptop somewhere. I even tried to bribe my New York friends to come to a party by promising to load their requests. Dave wanted something by Bon Jovi, which was lucky since I already had Livin' on a Prayer. It's a weird disco version with a wah-wah sound, but anyway.

Through the combined magics of the Internet and New York City, we had brunch today with Joe. Yesterday, Lori had Facebooked us having breakfast at a place he recommended; he commented that he was in town from SF closing out his and Vince's swank Chelsea apartment, and he made brunch reservations at Five Points for today. I had baked eggs and bacon. On the topic of cheap spruce-ups for the apartment, he suggested Muji--the Chelsea one, not the SoHo one which according to him is a total cluster-f*ck. Intriguing, that, but we wanted to see Chelsea anyway, since we're checking off our neighborhood checklist.

So later that afternoon we took the long stroll up 6th. Such a cool store, all the stuff so well made and pleasant to touch. And Lori found the find of the trip so far: cardboard foldng speakers!

Much later, hanging round the apartment, I read something online about red velvet cupcakes, and looked up Bo's cupcake recommendation. Er, 1.1 miles a little too far to walk at 9:30 pm. Lori said "Just google 'red velvet' and "New York City'--surely there's somewhere closer." Sure enough we found Crumbs just a few blocks away. Yippee! Spur of the moment cupcake getting!

Felt a few raindrops as we headed home, and now it's a full-blown thunderstorm. I posted on Facebook: "Crazy lightning lights up the skyline. Say that three times fast. Good thing we've got cupcakes." Good thing.

It works! And I can fold 'em up and bring them home with me.

We got red velvet, which always reminds me of the party Mark was planning for the end of Reaper Season One. And Caramel Apple.
