The Met! The Met!

At last! Posting!

August 7, 11:30 pm. Woke up this morning around 6 am thinking they'd started some massive construction, or destruction, project nearby, loud banging and crashes, like heavy machinery. Drifted back to sleep and re-woke at 10, realizing it had probably been the garbage trucks. Everything here seems to be extra loud, not just because of the collectivity, but in and of itself. Spent some of the morning taking pictures of the view.

Met Gary at 86th and Lexington, and we walked over to 2nd Avenue to Big Daddy's Diner, so fun! Big sandwiches with TATER TOTS, and I got an Egg Cream, finally! The menu is huge and crazy colorful.

The Met is amazing. Like Central Park and the New York Times, it seems like it can't be as good as it is, but it is. We really made the most of it. I'll post about the exhibits tomorrow, because I want to think about them some. (ETA: or, maybe not. Just in case, here's what Gary said at TWoP: "hen, it was off to the Met. The main exhibits we saw were Michelangelo's first painting, a photography exhibit on "The Model as Muse" that took us on a tour from the 20s to present day, and a Francis Bacon retrospective. I'd never seen Bacon's work. Guy puts the "tense" in intense work. Funny thing was that I'd just watched "Alien" this morning, and, after seeing Bacon's faces, I can see where Ridley Scott got his inspiration.")

Took the Express 4 (my last subway ride!) and got off at the closest stop, 14th Street Union Square, which was packed with people milling around on a beautiful Friday evening. Stopped at Crumbs, because, why not?

And, sunset.
