Music Inspiration Challenge
Apr. 30th, 2015 11:42 pmAt
gameofcards, the challenge was to get inspired by one of several songs posted. I picked one of my favorite songs ever, "Us" by Regina Spektor. Maybe best known from the film 100 Days of Summer, but also gorgeous and haunting in its own right. I decided to make Tumblr graphics related to the themes in the song, when I realized I had no idea what the song was about. So...I checked out Song Meanings. Wow, what a lot of different interpretations! I decided to go with what these random people seemed to think the song is saying. See what you think.

Anything But TV Challenge....
Apr. 2nd, 2014 01:25 am...so I picked music! Three of my favorite songs/performers. The challenge at
universe_the was to spend three hours. My personal challenge was to learn how to do those tumblr-style graphics with a gif embedded in a background. Also with lyrics. Interesting experiment. Kinda fun, actually.

Yesterday was My Birthday...
Dec. 23rd, 2008 08:32 pm...and also the day Joe Strummer died, which I commemorated here. But I'm also loving this band, The Gaslight Anthem, who have a song that's a tribute to Joe: I'da Called You Woody, Joe. Lyrics below.

Great Song
Dec. 13th, 2008 02:28 pmI'm listening to this song over and over again. Not the kind of music I usually prefer--I guess you'd call it folk? singer-songwriter?--but it's so beautiful, sad and hopeful. Thanks, CP, for telling me about this. It's true, it does say it all about how life could be easier, or get tough. Strangely comforting. Plus, good for a nice cry.
(lost the video, but it's Easier by Joe Purdy
is it gonna get easier
is it gonna get tough
are the waters gonna open wider
or are they gonna get rough
are we gonna have to sink right down
are we gonna get to paint this town
deep blue and green, the colors of your eyes lookin at me
early in the morning.

Rock Concert!
Sep. 20th, 2008 03:26 pmMy Morning Jacket at the Greek Theater, Berkeley. Gentle mist, lights glowing and flashing on the eucalyptus. Vocals echoing off the hills; bass going right through you. Amazing crowd, everyone so very happy. Great night. The icon shows my view with cool dancing dude; the video shows the view of someone kind enough to film and post it. See more live music, everybody.

Joe Strummer
Aug. 21st, 2008 12:40 amToday is Joe Strummer's Birthday.
Funny thing, he died on my birthday. That day is commemorated here. I'd love to see that mural sometime: Niagara Bar, 112 7th and Avenue A, NY. Like in the video, I remember seeing lots of people wearing Clash t-shirts. We went to a Clash-themed place for breakfast (yes) and they were playing, I think, London Calling, and a man in the next booth said to his son, who looked around 9--"That guy singing, he's Joe Strummer. He died today."
You felt like you were part of a (big) club. Still do. He's one of my (few) heroes.
From a tribute site:
"When he played at the Troubador, before he walked off the stage he said 'It's a sad and beautiful world! Goodnight!'
If you don't know, find out more about him.

Ten songs thing
May. 18th, 2008 10:51 pmSaw this in several places. Since this is my first foray, I thought something short and structured would be good to start. Kinda weak, but I swore not to edit.
1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it’s over. No lingering!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.
Fandoms = BSG, Dexter, Reaper, Angel, Buffy
Disclaimer = Don’t own anything.
Rating = PG
