1. Vamp!Willow in Doppelganger and The Wish (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Because she is hot, hilarious, wears a bustier, and ultimately comes to a bad end. But before she does, she wreaks havoc, breaks fingers, confuses everyone, and leaves Our!Willow with a bit of a badass reputation. Which never never hurts, right? 2. Vamp!Xander in The Wish (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Because HE is hot, sexy, mean, and it is so fun to see our usual eager puppy Xander as the Big Bad Snarling Dog. And Angel as the puppy, sheesh. And that scene where he and Willow surround Cordelia? Wow, talk about uneasily, scarily amazing. You don't want to find it appealing, but it's hard not to. 3. Alt-Liv, multiple episodes, Fringe. Because SHE is hot, sexy, and has simply amazing hair. Somehow, and foolishly I guess, I found it so surprising that the same actress that could play the intense, buttoned up, yet ultimately tender Our!livia could also play this free-swinging yet ultimately cold-hearted Alt version. Also I know there were more versions, but at some point I became too confused to keep up. Artists unknown.
4. Alt!Broyles, multiple episodes, Fringe. Okay, I'm going to quit saying that it's because the alt!versions are hot. Though he is. With Alt!Broyles, Lance Reddick gets to play up his sharp slinkiness, and rock the tight t-shirts and eyepatch, yeah. We never quite know what his deal is, but what does it matter? 5. Evil Sulu! Mirror, Mirror (Star Trek TOS.) Because we always knew that Our Sulu had a fire burning inside (witness his sword-fighting scene in Naked Time), but we didn't really like seeing him be so nasty-mean, what with the scar and all. But it did make us look at Our Sulu a little differently. Plus, his dickishness gave us a chance to see Uhuru be super tough. Yeah. Gifs by captainsulus at Tumblr.
6. Evil Spock, Mirror, Mirror (Star Trek TOS.) Because that damn goatee went so well with his eyebrows, and gave rise to other sardonic mirror universe baddies to follow (witness bad!Bender). 7. Evil Charmed Ones, Brain Drain (Charmed). Because it was, well, charming to see them mirror the universe, and have their nemesis be The Great Hope, and because our girls must have had great fun in those outfits, right? 8. Smith and Wesson, It's a Terrible Life (Supernatural). Because this is totally hilarious, and makes "normal life" seem, indeed, terrible, but it's also kind of sad to see the boys in this setting and wonder 'what if?' What if this had been their life instead of the hard-charging, tough-luck demon-hunting reality they live it? Well, it sure wouldn't have been a tv show. 9. The Futurama Gang, The Farnsworth Parabox (Futurama). Because this show does everything in the silliest yet cleverest way and plays off of so many of the mirror universe tropes with terrific animation and fab colors. 10. What Could Have Been Friends, The One that Could Have Been (Friends). Because--even though the "fat" and other "appearance" jokes are unpleasant and hopefully outdated--it's in the way the cast committed to their alternate selves, and the way you find yourself believing that it could have gone this way, and like all good alternate universe tales, it makes you appreciate the one we know best.
