...for a challenge at [livejournal.com profile] universe_the. I decided to pick some from different decades. So.....

1970s The Rockford Files
With the most awesome James Garner as a hapless, lovable loser type of private detective, with his own set of morals, a funky trailer on the beach, and a Pontiac Firebird. One of the best gimmicks of the show, and one that really illustrated Rockford's character, was the opening telephone answering machine message. See the sample below.

1980s Miami Vice
The quintessential 80s show, for looks, morals, and music, which is why I did a mini-mix. For those overloaded now with music videos and music MONTAGES in every show and movie, you can't imagine what it was like to hear In the Air Tonight or Brothers In Arms leading up to a key scene. And this show, though it seems rather poseur now, at the time, some of that drama was pretty damn emotional. Take it from me.

1990s Sports Night
Some of you probably know I love this show, because of the writing and the humor and the...well, this was the second episode, and I remember it ended, with them blaring into the song Afternoon Delight, and I just sat there stunned staring at the (13-inch) TV.

2000s Everwood
Family drama, Greg Berlanti-style. Fantastic characters, a mix of very real and very quirky, but also very smart. Almost shocking honesty, leavened with humor. As well as the incomparable Treat Williams and heartbreaking Gregory Smith, this also featured Emily Van Camp and Chris Pratt, as the son and daughter of town doctor Tom Amandes, who spoke the classic clue during a failed game of Celebrity, "Come on, you know this! Died for our sins! Middle initial H!"

2010s Arrested Development
Okay, this is cheating a bit, since the show was mostly on in the early 2000s, but had this web series this past year. But what the hell, it deserves a tribute for being simply hilarious, with so many broad moments, and the little moments. This less-than-stellar gif captures the exact moment when I knew I loved the show. You see, earlier on in the episode they establish that one of GOB's things is to ride around on a Segway, looking basically ridiculous. As one does. So here, after he's already supposedly left the scene, you see him in this throwaway moment through the window, Segwaying along. He almost seems like he's rushing away. And Michael notices. Eh, it doesn't do it justice, but this show definitely pays off those small moments.
