Central Park is Wonderland.

Date to meet KPC for a stroll up Central Park West and an Alice-in-Wonderland themed day. I guess I'm getting too casual on the subway, because I jumped on a nice shiny E train, where the seats matched my skirt, and sadly it veered off before my stop at Columbus Circle. Nothing daunted, I got off at 7th Street, then had turmoil over whether to subway backwards or just walk. Should have walked, I think it was only two blocks or so, but instead I trekked to the reverse train, whereupon a mouse (or small rat) crossed my path. Went back to 50th, whereupon I should have walked, but instead found myself in the old uptown/downtown platform dilemma and had to exit, cross 8th Avenue, and enter (and pay!) again to go one stop uptown. I don't know why all these subway shenanigans are so fascinating to me, but they are.

Met up with the delightful KPC at Columbus Circle, and we headed up to Alice's Tea Shop, at the corner of W. 73rd and Columbus. An hour wait, so we headed across to the Park, shooting for the Alice in Wonderland statue. On the way, passed The Dakota, and once in the Park, headed for the Imagine Mosaic, just to keep with the secondary theme of the day.

I could go on and on about Central Park, which even with what everyone has told me, is so much more amazing in reality. It seems so well-tended yet also naturally beautiful, full of surprises that are easy to access but hard to find. A family of singers, their voices filling Bethesda Arcade, the amazing vistas from Belevedere Castle, the dappled walkways of The Ramble. And everywhere, people enjoying the sun, the impromptu music, or just sitting staring into space.
In between Park jaunts, the Tea Shop was just what I'd been wanting, scones and sandwiches on a tiered serving rack, and lovely conversation with KPC about life, love, art, and being an actor in NYC. It was a great 4-5 hour escapade, on one of the prettiest days ever.
