catko...so I suppose I expected that some of it would be, well, unsettling?
Always amazing (short list):
1) So much going on, all of the time.
2) How easy it is just to head out and do anything, anytime, all by yourself.
3) The food, so much variety and mostly such good quality.
4) The art and creativity everywhere.
5) The ethnic and cultural diversity.
Becoming uncomfortable:
1) The constant roar and commotion, even late late at night.
2) Getting a little weary of doing stuff by myself. Even lonely.
3) Missing home-cooked meals. Missing cooking.
4) The pretentiousness. Nothing specific, it's just a general impression. Maybe I mean the commercialism.
5) The extreme social stratification.
It's all about the contradictions, right? Stimulating, but uneasy. In other news, cute (I think) guy with his shirt unbuttoned, having a photo shoot on the roof across. You can't see him at all, but trust me, like the firemen, he's there.
