Catching up.

Aug 6, 12 pm. I just had my first famous person sighting! In the elevator of my apartment building, guy I've seen go in and out walking his bulldog, struck up a conversation with me and this other young woman with a bike. (Small elevator, too, we were really crammed in there.) After he got out, she asked me if I knew him, and told me he is an actor, from Birdcage with Robin Williams. I think it's this guy, Dan Futterman, which is a bummer because I loved him in that movie and a few other things I've seen him in, and though I've run into him before I've never gotten a good look because I was too busy looking at the DOG! Whose name is Clyde, by the way.
It looks like rain, and is very cool here, after the hottest humidest day we've had since I've been here. In fact that's what my friend Dan said in the elevator earlier, "What is it with this weather, yesterday was summer, today feels like autumn!"
Sigh, autumn. I'm now accustomed to this limbo mood of being kind of homesick, but also sad to go. I guess it'll be like this until Sunday. Seeing KPC for a stroll possibly to Manhattan's hotspot, Whole Foods (what? it is the hippest hangout in town!), will make me feel like I'm really still here.
Aug 5: So, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annex in SoHo; I guess it's an offshoot of the original in Cleveland. It was fun and moving at times, but I'm not sure I recommend it. For one thing, it was $25, which is kind of outrageous when you consider that MoMA is $18. It's not really a museum, but more of a semi-guided tour that had a bit of a feeling of Disneyland about it, i.e. super structured. John Lennon exhibit by Yoko Ono, and a large section on New York music that included Bruce and the Four Seasons, which even this West Coaster imagines would piss off people from New Jersey. And I forgot to use my $5-off coupon. And the usher made me delete the photos he caught me taking, surreptitiously, of the Joe Strummer plaque.
But there were a few times I got a little misty-eyed, such as the Ramones clips, and the Who doing "A Quick One" on Rock 'n' Roll Circus, which is one of the most amazing "live" performances ever.
Dan Futterman
