Another night at the Bronze. Sitting on a stool, watching other people hook up. But maybe tonight'll be different. So you've got a thing for someone you've known your whole life. You can't just wait around. Life is short, right? (That's what she said. Heh.)

Now get up. No more wasting time being all shy. Surely out of all these…oh, god, milling, sweating, flailing bodies, there must be at least one, just one, who…Take a deep breath. Smile…not too big, though, don't want to look like a total idiot.

Oops, sorry. Darn, it's so crowded. And dark. But you can still see it’s mostly the same kids, from school and around. Wait--there's someone different. All alone. Great hair. Kinda big collar but … definitely cute. Walk by, casual. Get in the line of sight.

Okay. Say something. "Uhh"--no, don't wave--"hi."

A smile. Promising. "Well, hello."

"Crazy crowd, huh?" Tone down the eager.

"I like it." Lazily, still smiling, looking – wow – interested. Well, this isn't so hard!

"So, umm, what's your name?"

The smile lifts up to cat-like eyes as she shakes her blonde hair back.

"Darla."

Yeah, seize the moment. Hey, what's the worst that could happen?

What's this? A Buffy fic from you. :0 Is it your first? I haven't gone looking for BtVS fic yet so it was cool to read this, my first one. That's a fandom I'm afraid to write for because it feels like I'm too late to the party and everything has already been written. But don't let my inhibitions stop you, you go, and back to season one too! Nice. I loved the Bronze.

(In fact I think Darla's giving him the eye as we speak!)

I can't blame her. I miss my cute reaper boy.

Oh. Nice.

Caught me by surprise at the end.

As a fellow newbie to the fandom, I say "Welcome!" (like I know what the hell I'm doing...)

And this was great, btw. You totally "gotcha'd" me at the end!

I actually thought we were reading Willow's thoughts, as it was Buffy who had told Willow to seize the moment. A great little story, and I love surprise endings. Well done.

Delightful. Oh, the irony - the deliciously vampiric femmeslashy irony of it all. Can almost hear the creepy suspense-enhancing music in the background.

Now seized by sudden urge to read more Darla/Willow. Hmm. Wonder if that's been done?

As another newcomer to this huge and venerable fandom, I'm telling myself that since everything's been done already, it doesn't matter what I do, so I can go ahead and do anything I damn well please. :)

Yes, a nice little surprise at the end. Good story.

And please don't be put off by all the existing 'BtVS' and 'Angel' fic. There is *always* something new to write about. Honestly.

I wondered how Jesse worked up the courage to talk to the hot Catholic school girl. Nice job.

Looks like a lot of us have been inspired by Phantasmagoria to try writing Buffy - I love the idea of going back to the beginning, and getting in at the moment when fandom was just getting going.

This works great. Lots reminders of how awful it is to be a gawky teen, and then the snapping surprise at the end. Poor kid.

Oh, very good. You had me fooled with the ending! Thank you for contributing to our new venture - there is lots of new stuff being written and that's so wonderful to see. Please don't be put off!

I liked how we didn't know who was speaking...and I liked the way the prose sort of kept the reader at arm's length. Thanks so much for contributing to the community!

Sneaky. It didn't sound like Willow's thinking pattern, but as Jesse... yeah, that works nicely. Well done. Nice surprise at the end there. And also poignant.
