I. Prompt 002. Bonfire--Firefly
Fic and Picspam (270 words, 35 caps = 5 + 35 points = 40 points)

Prompt 002. Bonfire: The night sky was full of sparks and flashes, like a weird, horrible daylight, even though it had been night--it seemed like--forever. Soon as the war had shifted and they started strafing after dark, it didn’t much matter day or night, light or dark. There was no more still evening, eating rations by the fire, knowing you’d have at least a few hours quiet before taking up arms again at dawn. No more settling down on the hard ground, willing your body to rest for just a few. Now, just the endless explosions, crackling of tracers, roar of sweepers, and moans and cries of the troops around her. Endless. Zoe hunkered down behind a shattered wall and closed her eyes. A few minutes of unconsciousness was all they could afford, now. She felt herself sinking down into oblivion.

She jerked awake when a loud strum and chorus of cries rang out. She felt arms around her and jolted, terrified. How long had she been asleep? Who was this, was she captured? “Hey baby, you okay?” a gently laughing voice hummed in her ear. She blinked and looked around her in the dark, saw the ring of dancing people. “Only my girl could sleep through this party.” He looked into her eyes and then his widened with concern. “Ah, sweetie. Bad dream again?”

Zoe looked at the bonfire, up at the red haired man peering down, and grasped at the near memory of riding across a river, shooting some men off of horses, then drinking and eating with the ecstatic locals. Her body sinking with relief, she watched the sparks fly into the dark night and snuggled deeper into the embrace of her husband.

II. Prompt 092. Shadow--Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Fic and Picspam -- 246 words, 38 caps (including 2 caps used as background) = 5 + 38 points = 43 points

Prompt 092. Shadow: “My very own recipe!” Xander said as he handed around the bowl of popcorn. “Mmmfpm!” Willow munched, and swallowed. “Oooh, parmesan cheese! Nice touch.”

“Well, that was Joyce’s idea,” Xander admitted, as he put down the bowl and moved toward the TV. “Thanks, Mom!” Buffy sounded approving as she stretched out her legs.

“I figured with all you’ve been through, a little extra nourishment wouldn’t hurt.” Joyce grinned, though with a faint edge of concern. Giles looked up from his magazine and smiled reassuringly. “Interesting coincidence—it says here that the British Cheese Board have done a study showing that if you eat cheese before sleeping, it can influence your dreams.”

“That’s crazy,” said Buffy scornfully, “who wants to dream about cheese?”

“No, no, it’s not that. Apparently, different types of cheese result in different types of dreams. Which seems quite spurious, you know. Surely it’s quite well-established that dreams are the voice of our unconscious, our shadow self.”

Willow dusted off her hands and pulled an afghan over herself. “Well I for one would like to know which cheese gives you happy, unicorn and bunny dreams. When I doze off, I want it to be pleasant for a change.”

“Dozing off? Nobody’s dozing off!!” Xander turned toward them, holding up two DVD cases. “It’s movie night, remember? So…Apocalypse Now?” He waggled one case enticingly, but, noting their expressions, proffered the second case, albeit reluctantly. “Okay, okay, second choice. While You Were Sleeping?”

III. Prompt 094. Fall (Firefly)
Fic and Picspam -- 194 words, 45 caps (including 2 caps used as background) = 5 + 45 points = 50 points

Prompt 094. Fall: Mal gasped as he felt himself falling, and even over the intense pain in his gut, with one part of his reeling mind he knew this was gonna hurt even more. He crashed, face first, onto the cold metal grating, felt his stomach heave, then…nothing. Warm laughter bubbled up to fill his ears and wrap his icy frame in comfort. Happy faces by candlelight, glittering eyes and waving hands, flicker of lights, surge of concern…

The agony shot through his head as his hand groped, seemingly unbidden, for something…what….Kaylee would know. His fingers grasped the hard, ridged metal as his mind unmoored yet again.

The fire in his midsection roused him for a moment…fire…Zoe. Behind his eyes he could see her body being blown back by the blast; the doctor, poised over her with a hypo, aiming for her chest. What the ching-wuo tsao da lioumng was he trying to...wait. He could see her body jolt and her vitals spike. Vitals. Yeah.

Summoning every last bit of will and consciousness, he staggered to his feet, grasping the unwieldy whateveritwas, Kaylee would know, and let his feet drag him toward the cold, blue room, through the walls of the ship that would be with him for the rest of his life.

IV. Prompt 046. Crush -- Dr. Horrible

Fic and Picspam -- 262 words, 40 caps = 5 + 40 points = 45 points

Prompt 046. Crush. Well, so, I’ve been thinking about this, and he’s wrong. Johnny is totally wrong. It’s not just a crush. I should know. I’ve been watching, I mean, admiring her for so long. I even wrote a song about it:

The way she wears her hair,
The way she folds her clothes.
The memory in the air…

I keep getting just that far, and yeah, it keeps sounding like that old show tune. So I know this is more than a silly infatuation. It’s real, it’s true, it keeps me up at night.

Which is just as well because when I do sleep, that’s when things get just a little bit strange. A vivid imagination, that’s what Mom always said. “Billy,” she’d say, “you and your science projects, and those outfits, and that imaginary bunch of cowboys you were always spinning tales around…my, my, you’re just so creative, such a bright imagination!” Didn’t really want to tell her that most of that stuff came to me in my sleep. Still does.

Mom. I miss her. But I don’t know if she would have approved of Penny. I mean, I hate to think that, but Mom was, well, particular when it came to other people. Especially anyone I might want for a friend. “They’re not quite our …type of people, now are they, dear?” she’d used to say. End result—easier to have imaginary friends than find ones that wouldn’t pass muster.

But anyway, Penny. If I could get her into my life, then I wouldn’t have to make up acquaintances. She…she’s, like, my dream girl.

I really like the way you incorporated the picspams with the fics.

I love that you wrote Zoe/Wash, because people always forget about the boring married folks, but their relationship is awesome, and I love the ficlet.

Shadow was also great. Love that you were able to work the cheese man into your picspam.

I loved the imagery in Fall. Really descriptive and vivid.

And the last one was by far my favorite. THE SONG! Just so sweet. So much love.

Awesome big bang.
