I used to be afraid of picspams but they are EASY! Here is a suggestion how to approach it, for our [livejournal.com profile] fringeverse  challenge that only requires 6 images per picspam.

1) Think of a theme, or just pick an Olivia scene or an episode you want to feature.

2) Go to a screencap site, such as this awesome one by daydreaming.

3) Select 6 images. (Double click to enlarge, right click, and save image to your desktop.)

4) Use an image app or site to treat, color, or otherwise alter the pics. Suggestions: change them to black and white or sepia. Screen them a few times to lighten/brighten. Put a filter on them. If you're not sure what these mean, ask for help in a comment here!
--Don't have an application? Try pixlr.

5) Using your image app or site, put the six pics together into one large picture. Here's how:
--Resize or crop the individual pics to a width of, say, 400 pixels (height will be 225).
--You're going to make your finished picspam 2 across, three down, so make a new document that is 800x675. You can also make it slightly larger, say 900x800, if you want a border or frame around the edge.
--Paste your individual pics into your blank document/canvas. Adjust them to fit.

6) That should do it! Don't forget to write your blurb about why these pictures show how you love Olivia, and your sig tag!

Alternative approach is to put the picspam together first (1-3, then 5), then color or otherwise treat the whole picspam as one (#4).
Or, I like to use a large screencap as the "canvas" or background; I open it, filter it with a blur or adjust the exposure or color so it is abstract, and arrange my screencaps on top of it, leaving some space in between them, and cropping the whole thing leaving a border.

I wish I could make this an illustrated tutorial but I can't figure out how. So, I'll link to a couple of examples. And here's a tutorial by [livejournal.com profile] thirdhex  that is good.

For a challenge at [livejournal.com profile] fringeverse . But really the last one is for [livejournal.com profile] blue_sunflowers .

Our Astrid is strong, smart and steady,
In her job she must always be ready--
  To keep Walter preempted,
  Bet sometimes she is tempted
To sneak out and smoke some Brown Betty.

A cow in a lab? What's he thinking?
The mooing, the cowbell clink-clinking!
   But Gene's such a pet
   And please don't forget
She gives plenty of milk for the drinking.

So Peter's the key to this tale
Unless the Fringe writers plan to derail
  The point of his Arc
  Leave a big question mark,
And turn this great show into FAIL.
